So yesterday I was able to create my first magical moment! Here is the story:
I was scheduled to work from 7-2:30, but someone asked me if I would take their parade shift for them. So I gladly did, since it would give me a couple extra hours. And luckily I was working with awesome fellow vacation planners! We went to our beginning meeting to get our assignments of where we would be positioned, and my name was called, and I was assigned the VIP section. I didn't have any idea what that was, but a lot of people around me said I was really lucky. Once the meeting ended I went to one of the coordinators to get a list of the people who were VIPs. There were three families, so there was plenty of extra room to let other families in (aka create magical moments!!!!!). The VIP spot is right before the bridge that leads from where the castle is into Liberty Square. So I set up the benches, put the rope in front of them with the "reserved" sign, and waited for the families to arrive and wait for the perfect moment to make a families dream come true.
Two of the three families showed up, and I let my friend Trisha and her family come sit at the VIP spot. I still had four benches open with no one sitting in them. So about 15 minutes before the parade started, I waited and waited and waited for the perfect family to come near me... and the perfect family did! There were two little girls and one little boy, and two dads and two moms that all came together. It was their first time ever to Disney World and they were from Arkansas. The dad came up to me and asked, "Where is the perfect spot to watch the parade in your opinion?" I smiled and replied, "Right here!" They looked confused, but I opened the rope up and told them to come in. They were in such shock and said over and over, "Are you sure?" "Is this allowed?" I assured them it was perfectly fine and it would make my day if they watched the parade from here. The kids were adorable, and one of them dressed as Snow White was asleep but the other two were as lively as ever. They got so excited as I told them about all the characters that were in the parade and that they would get to hug and take pictures with them as they walked through, something only the VIPs get to do. The little girl was wearing Ariel the Mermaid on her shirt and the boy was wearing Mickey Mouse on his. I told them I was friends with both of them, and after I said that, they didn't leave me alone for the rest of the parade and thought I was the coolest person! I think their parents took my picture with them at least 10 times. But it was awesome getting to know that family and telling them about where I'm from, where I go to school, what I do at my job, etc. I did let one other family in, they were a "Make a Wish" family and they melted my heart. Their little boy was sick with a rare disease, and seeing him and saying hello made me tear up a bit. But then the parade was coming our way and everyone got excited and the two little kids I was with were so thrilled.
The parade VIP spots are so awesome, and it was neat making the families happy. One of the dads tried to tip me at the end because he was so appreciative, but I told him just seeing him and his family happy was the perfect tip he could give me! It was sad knowing that I will never see those families ever again, but at least I will be in their memories and pictures, which is what it's all about!
