It's linked to my Etsy shop so I can maintain the same name/brand for everything I do dealing with design. To continue keeping up with my crazy life, <a href="http://simplysweetascanbe.blogspot.com/">click here</a> to go to my new blog!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8149933370207164361.post-91752646547190067452013-09-17T16:08:00.001-06:002013-09-17T16:08:15.414-06:00I've been MIA!<div style="text-align: left;">
Hello There!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yes, I realize I've been MIA for a little bit now. This is probably the longest I've gone without blogging in a while! But I've been pondering about life (it's been more like soul searching!), and I've decided something. And now I have a goal to do something about it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I want to start a lifestyle blog! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Obviously not right away, but in the near future for sure. I want a blog that has all my interests separated into tabs for others to click on and enjoy if the share that same interest. And do you know what my interests include? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Photography. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Cupcakes.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Designing. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And just living a happy and fun life. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It's not enough for me just to write a blog post about these topics. I want to do more! I want to bake cupcakes and take mouth-watering picture of them. I want to design things that others will like and want to buy. I want to leave my mark and make an impression!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So yeah. That's my new life goal. I hope to get there someday.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In the meantime, I'll continue to blog like normal, or at least try to. I just have nothing interesting to blog about anymore! I work, eat, sleep, and talk to Geoff and that's about it. I'll play tennis and workout every so often too, but you get the point!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Finally... After two long years, my best friend is home from his mission! I'm pretty much happier than a clam. I was able to go to Ephrata for a few days to see him when he got home. We spent a lot of time together hanging out at each other's houses and with our families, going to Wenatchee to eat at Wok About, watching a movie at his parent's movie theater and just catching up on what's happened over the past couple of years.</div>

I'm so grateful for the great guy he's become and being the best example to me and everyone else. I know his younger brothers and sisters look up to him greatly and it just melted my heart seeing how excited they were to have Geoff back. It's been great hearing stories about the places and people in Brazil. He really loves those he met and I hope someday he's able to go back and visit to see the fruits of his labors! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm glad we have been able to pick up right where we left off two years ago. It's as if he never left and I am excited to see what the future has in store for us :)</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
What a week last week! I was able to see lots of my Chlarson family at our reunion at Ensign Ranch. We played lots of games, went canoeing, horseback riding and ate until we we were the size of the horses we could see outside the kitchen windows! I even went to Leavenworth for a few hours with my Aunt Jana and her family. It was a great little vacation from work. It was also much needed, as I haven't taken a vacation since the end of March for Easter, and that was only a couple of days! I also have not been back to Washington since Christmas, and even though I was only home for less than a day, I figure I'll be back next week to see Geoff when he gets home from Brazil :) We took family pictures Sunday evening since it was the only time we were able to all get together before I flew back to Salt Lake the next day. All in all, it has been and is going to be a fun couple of months for this girl!<br />
<br />
Here are some pictures. I apologize for the randomness of how they are placed... I'm too lazy to fix them!</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I deeply apologize for my lack of blogging! My grown-up summer starts next week at my family reunion... So there will be more exciting things to blog about once that time comes!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
On July 24th Utah celebrates Pioneer Day to remember all those courageous pioneers who came here and made Utah what it is today. For FHE, my ward went to the Salt Lake Cemetery to visit the gravesites of some prominent people in our church's history! I was so excited, as I have been wanting to go to Gordon B. Hinckley's gravesite ever since he passed away in January of 2008. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This cemetery is probably the biggest ever known to man. I looked it up online and there are 130,000 burial sites there, with 121,000 of them already taken. It's 250 acres big! It sits right in the heart of Salt Lake, and the farther you go up, the more gorgeous view of Salt Lake you can see. Seriously it was breathtaking. What a place to be put to rest!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There are lots of people we know of buried there, including all the prophets except Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and Lorenzo Snow, William Clayton, W.W. Phelps and many other apostles. We only went to the graves of four people that were spread out a ways from each other, but saw others along the way. I definitely got a good workout in walking up those steep hills!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Our first stop was the one I'd been looking forward to - Gordon B. Hinckley. His wife was buried there of course as well. We shared some memories we had of this beloved prophet of ours and some of the best quotes he said as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dSQoh74G0Ik/Ue8SQvhyEYI/AAAAAAAADYU/whfKjJMp4VI/s1600/photo+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dSQoh74G0Ik/Ue8SQvhyEYI/AAAAAAAADYU/whfKjJMp4VI/s320/photo+1.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Directly in front of the Hinckley's grave was David O. McKay. His gravestone was huge! It was triple the size of the Hinckley's. Although this wasn't one of our stops, we still passed by it which was neat.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2Nnx9exBBRo/Ue8SY8gDb0I/AAAAAAAADYc/0R98jIbQAjk/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2Nnx9exBBRo/Ue8SY8gDb0I/AAAAAAAADYc/0R98jIbQAjk/s320/photo+2.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We then walked to John Taylor's. His was so tall and in the shape of the Washington Memorial, I couldn't get a full picture of it. Plus the sun was in the perfect (meaning worse) spot for a picture to be taken. But he was surrounded by family members.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Third was Wilford Woodruff. He had a gorgeous gravestone. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EqCnRqx2bX0/Ue8So1cmNTI/AAAAAAAADYk/mBut3hlK2jU/s1600/photo+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EqCnRqx2bX0/Ue8So1cmNTI/AAAAAAAADYk/mBut3hlK2jU/s320/photo+4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Last was Mary Fielding Smith. Hyrum Smith's wife, and her sister Rachel. We stopped there and were told a really touching pioneer story of all that they went through during their life. It made me appreciate pioneers more than I already do! I didn't take a picture of their graves, but they were your average graves.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Near Mary Smith's grave was Joseph F. Smith's grave, not one of our stops but we stopped anyways! I have to say, it was weird seeing his grave then the graves of like four of his wives lined up right next to it. I know polygamy was needed back then, but I am so glad it's not needed now! I would be so jealous of my husband's other wives!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZWdtlurWvRE/Ue8S3Tg9SQI/AAAAAAAADYs/Hqu_g-Zw8hw/s1600/photo+5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZWdtlurWvRE/Ue8S3Tg9SQI/AAAAAAAADYs/Hqu_g-Zw8hw/s320/photo+5.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And that's that! That cemetery is a very sacred place and I'm glad I was able to go there. I definitely want to go back and see more graves, since it could take all day and then some to get through them all!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Since my family is here in Salt Lake and I'm so excited to spend my evenings with them once I get off work, I thought it was only appropriate that I write something about families. I love that we have the opportunity to be with our families forever. This Mormon Message is a good one, and how can you not love the little boy singing "Familes Can Be Together Forever"? This video says it all!<br />
<br />
And a special shout out to my sister Chelsey and Deseret News friend Sarah... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY! Hope you both have a wonderful day!<br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This video has been pretty popular the last couple of weeks since it was posted online. And every time I watch it, I can't help but get a little teary-eyed. Although the wife must feel so helpless not being able to provide for herself or her husband, her husband loves her unconditionally and makes sure she knows how much he loves her through his actions. Their relationship is a special one, one with an eternal prospective. I loved the quote at the end by Richard G. Scott: "Marriage provides an ideal setting for overcoming any tendency to be selfish or self-centered... Pure love is an incomparable, potent power for good, and the foundation of a successful marriage."</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I want to experience a love like this someday, a pure love where I can put my husband and children's needs before my own. Love makes any burden bearable, as it is obvious in this video. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yesterday was the Worldwide Leadership Broadcast. In the past (correct me if I'm wrong), the broadcast has been for mission leaders and missionaries only. But with the increase in missionaries due to the changes in ages when missionaries can now serve, the First Presidency felt it was important to include as many church members as possible. My roommate and I went to our stake building to watch the broadcast with the rest of our stake. We were one of the first people there, but by the time the broadcast started, there was not an empty seat to be seen! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I got more out of this broadcast then I thought I would. I figured the messages shared would be for missionaries and mission presidents, since normally it's a training session for them. But the First Presidency did a good job focusing on us too! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It's crazy to think that the number of full-time missionaries has increased from 52,000 to 70,274 in the 8 months since the age change was announced. And I believe the age change has developed a desire in more girls to serve. This year, I know of 10 girls currently on missions that are either my close friends or I had a class with at BYU-Idaho, and I know of 4 others that will soon be leaving. That doesn't include the 4 girl friends I already have on missions, and the other 3 I know but am not close with. This is just an estimate... there's probably even more I'm not aware of! Crazy huh? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To accommodate for the missionary increase, 58 new missions were created this year alone, bringing the total to 405. There's also currently 173 mission presidents, more than ever before. If you haven't noticed, I'm totally into statistics! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
During the broadcast, there were a lot of video clips shown of successful missionary stories by from the work of missionaries and ward members. These were a great reminder that with dedication and faith, you can accomplish whatever you desire. You just have to make the necessary effort. Even in Utah, where 64% of the population is LDS, there's still always an opportunity for us to be missionaries and share our testimony with others. I need to remember that.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I loved hearing some of the apostles speak. Elder Neil L. Andersen reminded us that although missionaries teach the lessons to those investigating the church, it is our duty as ward members to find those whom the missionaries should teach. I've never really thought about that before, but now that I think about it, it's really a no-brainer. Of course the missionaries need our help to find people to teach. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A quote from Elder Andersen was very meaningful to me. "We work together in faith and unity, faith that the Lord will guide our steps and unity with each other and the missionaries, always motivated by our love for Him, our love for one another, and our love for those we serve." It really is all about love! We share the gospel with others because we want what is best for them. We want them to find true happiness. Why else would we share the gospel? Why do we go out of our way to do so? There's really no other reason other. It's all because of love.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Elder Russell M. Nelson also spoke of love in missionary service. I love the comparison he made with a father and his child. The father noticed a child was missing during a family gathering, and he immediately goes to search for the child. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
"What parent would postpone looking for the child a handbook was written?" Elder Nelson said. "Good leaders, like good parents, take action because of love." </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There is no handbook on how we should teach others, only what to teach them. I now see that the "How" is "Love." We serve others because like Christ, we love them. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I learned so much from this conference, but those are a couple of the highlights that I found were meaningful to me. I just love missionaries and am grateful for all they do! I have to admit, a while back I use to think of missionary service as somewhat of a postponing stage in life, since those who go out on missions put their lives on hold to serve the Lord for two years (or a year and a half if you are a girl). But although your life may be postponed, the spiritual knowledge you gain and the growth you experience is much more valuable than anything else you could receive in this life. It's definitely the right and smart decision to "postpone" your life so you can be closer to our Heavenly Father! Those you teach and bring into the gospel will forever be grateful for you.</div>

You can watch the broadcast <a href="http://www.lds.org/training/wwlt/2013/hastening/a-new-vision?lang=eng"><span style="color: #3d85c6;">HERE</span></a> incase you missed it! It's found on <a href="http://www.lds.org/training/wwlt/2013/hastening/a-new-vision?lang=eng"><span style="color: #3d85c6;">the new website</span></a> talked about during the broadcast, which will now be a tool both missionaries and ward members can use to help share the gospel.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
I don't think I have posted this video yet... And I have no idea why because it's a good one! This Mormon Message is from a talk by President Uchtdorf titled "Your Potential, Your Privileges." I love the story behind the message that Uchtdorf tells at the beginning. I also like how it is entertaining and the guy on the cruise ship is funny to watch (just watch the video... you'll understand what I mean)! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The main message I got out of this video? "We can partake of an abundant feast of spiritual opportunity and universal blessings." As long as we do our part of going to church, reading the scriptures, and living the way we should be with our eyes towards our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ, we will be guided and shown how we can live up to our potential and use the privileges we have been given wisely. I know anything I want in life is possible as long as I trust in Christ and believe in good things to come!</div>

My wonderful Grammie sent me this touching video of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing to a little girl who couldn't make it to their concert. The video is a few years old now, but it still has the same affect now as it did back then. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would make the perfect Message for Monday!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm probably only going to blog on Mondays from now on for a while. I don't do too much but work, eat, and sleep! But I did see some family and friends this weekend and went to my first professional soccer game, Real Salt Lake. I loved it! I'm a little bummed that I don't get a summer break like I've been use to for basically my whole life! I just keep telling myself I would rather be busy and make money than be bored not making any money. Hope that gets me through the next 3 months! On a happier note, Geoff comes home in 66 days! I'm excited but he's a little sad to be leaving Brazil and come back to "the real world." It will be so nice having my best friend home!</div>

When I was 16, I went to EFY with my best friends Holly and my cousins Derek, Dylan, and Damon in Provo. The theme was "Power in Purity," and each group was given a name. Ours was "Lean Not." At first, I was like "What kind of name is that?" But I soon found out it went along with a scripture, now one of my favorites. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Sometimes it's hard for me to have faith in Lord and trust in Him. I may think at times I know what is best for me. But the Lord knows me even better than I know myself, and only He knows my future. So I really have worked at doing what this scripture says. As long as I acknowledge Him and pray to Him often, He will direct me in the direction I should be going in order to grow and be the best person I can be. I find a lot of comfort in knowing that!</div>

I found this video today and it brought back so many memories of when I was in Young Women's! I remember we sang this song my junior year of high school. It's a great reminder to know I am a "Daughter of a King" and someday I will return to live with Him again! We're never alone... He is always with us every step of the way :)</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
I saw this Mormon Message when it first came out three months ago, but I tend to still watch it every so often because it is such a good message. Although I personally feel like I have endured my fair share of trials, I know I have yet to experience even harder trials as I continue through my life's journey. I have some wonderful family and friends who are such examples to me. They have had some pretty rough times in their lives but have been able to keep their heads up and somehow be positive in a negative situation. Although I can't even fathom what they have had to endure, I know it is because of the gospel they have been able to get through their trials. Having the gospel gives us a bigger picture and we know once this life is over, we will be with our Heavenly Father again and all the trials we had to face will be understood. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I know trials allow us to grow and become the person we are meant to become. They are sometimes sudden and unexpected, but the uncomfortable feelings we experience is a change we can overcome through the Lord's help and having faith in Him.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Who says being a grown-up has to be boring? Although I've been anti-social lately, I decided I needed to spend some time with friends!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Last weekend, my friend Jessica came up from Tooele and we hung out for like 7 hours on Friday! I took her to The Blue Lemon (the best restaurant ever... it's tied with Zupas!), helped her get some last-minute items for her mission, and then we played games and made apple dumplings at my apartment. Her birthday was only a couple days before, and every year for her birthday for the past three years, I have made her apple dumplings. It all started when she tried them for the first time after I made them. She jokingly said, "You should make these for my birthday!" So I did! And now I make them every year. I'm glad she's back home in Utah now, since she's about to leave for her mission, so we could actually get together and eat them!</div>

This weekend, My cousins Eddy and Miken were leaving for the weekend and asked me to stay at their apartment and watch their cat, Kirby. I thought it might be nice to get out of my apartment for a little bit! So I stayed there Friday night and kept myself occupied with the playful Kirby. He's a sneaky little thing.... One minute I wouldn't know where he was, the next I would walk around the corner and he would jump out at me! I think I screamed three or more times! I was even laying in bed and while I was texting, he would jump and run right into my face (see video for proof below)! Then I would laugh or scream and scare him right back. Crazy cat! But I'm an animal lover, so I enjoyed the entertainment.</div>

Last night, my roommates and I went to the 2013 Living Traditions Festival in Downtown Salt Lake. There were singers and dancers from all different countries. And there was a ton of food from the different countries as well! I had some delicious asada mexican tacos and squeezed some lime juice in there... They tasted just like the tacos I had in Cabo three years ago! But it was neat to see some dances and other performances from very talented people! </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Remember back in the day when I would write a special <a href="http://kylieannelewis.blogspot.com/2012/07/message-for-monday.html">"Message for Monday"</a> post, where I would share my recently-attained wisdom with everyone? Well, I've decided I should try to do that little trend again, starting today! We'll see how long it lasts... Even if I write only one a month, well, that's better than nothing, right? Right!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This past month I have been thinking a lot about how I want time to speed up so I can "start my life," as I tend to call it. Basically, I've lived with many, many roommates for the past 5 years now (approximately 30ish... Holy Moly). I've had awesome and memorable experiences with many of those roommates, and of course I've also had my fair share of not-so-pleasant experiences where I wanted to pull my hair out in frustration. And although I'm not saying at all that I don't like my current roommates or am sick of them (plus, living with only 2 girls instead of 5 is super awesome), I feel like I am personally over this same living situation I have had for a while now. It's getting old! And in my mind and most other LDS girls' minds, the next step after having roommates would be having a "permanent" roommate, aka getting married and "starting a new life" with your significant other.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My current lease for my apartment will end at the end of September. So in my mind, it only seems logical to "start a new life" soon after that. I saw this quote/scripture on Pinterest, and it was something I definitely needed to hear:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OlV4Q3lS1wg/UZJW15GHupI/AAAAAAAADVs/C9obmaBUjNk/s1600/Screen+Shot+2013-05-14+at+9.22.29+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OlV4Q3lS1wg/UZJW15GHupI/AAAAAAAADVs/C9obmaBUjNk/s320/Screen+Shot+2013-05-14+at+9.22.29+AM.png" width="246" /></a></div>
<br />
I know I can make plans, but it's not my will but the Lord's will that will prevail in the end. So if my plans don't work out, well, there's a reason why that is! I need to work on putting my faith in Him and even though I'm personally ready for a change because I feel like I'm at a stopping point in my personal progression, I can't determine my own destiny. I can try to control it by making smart choices to result in the end outcome, but only the Lord has a plan and a purpose for my life here on earth. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So no matter how much I plan, who knows if those plans are what is best, even if I think they are. I don't know exactly where I will be when September comes around, but I know that prayer is a powerful thing. I prayed and had faith all throughout my Deseret News internship that I would find a job so I could start as soon as my internship ended. And the weekend before my last week at Deseret News, I was blessed by finding out I got the perfect job only a couple miles away from where I live. I love my job and I know eventually I will be able to go far and do lot of things with my job. I learned to be patient and have faith throughout my internship, and Heavenly Father rewarded me with a job opportunity right in the nick of time!<br />
<br />
I need to stop planning and worrying about what will happen if my plans don't work out. I need to remind myself that I don't need to "start my life" later on... I should be living my life right now and enjoying being who I am and where I am in life. My mom will sometimes tell me that I should be happy being single and not worry so much about the future, because I'll never get the time I have now back. And she's right! I may think I'm busy now will a full-time job, but it's only going to get busier once I add a spouse and kids and the many other grown-up responsibilities to it!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'll leave you with some quotes that I feel pertain to my life right now and also go along with what I just wrote about, as well as a video my life's theme song at the moment for your viewing pleasure! The song is all about "living in the moment" and not waiting and wasting the moments you are currently living :)</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We're finally in the double digits in the countdown to Elder Geoffrey Whetstone's homecoming! I have been waiting 586 days to be at 99 days, and I kept telling myself I would post the 99 day mark as my Facebook status when it was time. Time definitely has flown by these last few months, but I know once it gets down to the last month, time will probably go slow again! But 99 days is nothing and Geoff will be home in no time :)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am so grateful for Geoff being on a mission. Even though it has been hard for my best friend to be thousands of miles away and 5 hours ahead of me, it's all been worth it. He's grown so much and loves the people of Brazil and teaching them the gospel. I appreciate his dedication to write to me every two weeks, even though it may take forever for his letters to get to me! I write him every two weeks as well but somehow he gets my letters much faster... as in it-only-takes-four-days-to-get-to-him faster. So unfair! I also am so happy we are able to email back and forth on Mondays without breaking the rules, since missionaries can now email their friends too! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This Sunday is Mother's Day, and Geoff will get to Skype home and video chat with his family for the last time before he comes home. I'm super jealous of his family! But at least I was able to Skype him over Christmas AND get a phone call a year ago at the airport before he left for Brazil (we may or may not have talked non-stop for two whole hours...!) I only have to wait 99 more days to hear his voice again, and his laugh which I miss the most!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So here's for finally being in the double digits until my best friend come home! Hooray! And look how much of a difference two years makes... two years older, wiser, and tanner too! At least his smile is the exact same :)</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
This weekend has been such a wonderful weekend because it was filled with family! I have now seen two of my aunts (Cara and Jana) that I both haven't seen in almost 3 years this month. I also have seen my Aunt Mimi a little over a month ago and plan on going to visit my Aunt Barbie hopefully very soon! </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
My Aunt Jana flew to Utah to drive back to Texas with my cousin Derek since he just finished another semester at BYU. I was able to visit with her and my cousins Derek, Eddy and his wife Miken at Eddy Derek's friend Ricci also joined us! After watching "Winner Miken" play volleyball, we had pizza and played a card game called Killer Bunnies at Eddy and Miken's apartment in Herriman. Jana also made the scrumptious cinnamon cake! The card game was so confusing and I probably won't understand how to play it until I play a couple more times, but I ended up winning in the end all thanks to Miken who helped me out the entire time! I don't think I have laughed so hard in a long time. Ricci definitely got a good taste of our crazy family!</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Since we didn't get any pictures together (actually, I just wanted to be funny!), I created one in Photoshop! </div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
On Friday, it was my cousin Brianne's son's birthday! Mason turned 7. I went to eat dinner, open gifts and eat cake with him and his family. He asked me to guess what his age was now, and I played around acting like I didn't know. "259?" "2,814?" He finally gave me a hint to help me out. "It starts with... seven." So I guessed "700?" Nope. ""77?" Still nope. I finally guessed his age! Took me long enough ;)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Mason chose to eat dinner at Five Guys, which was an awesome choice! Leisha and Richard joined since they were in Utah for Richard's brother Stuart's wedding. I was so happy to see them and my favorite two girlies! Oh how I have missed them! It was a great night. Mason was excited about his presents and the cousins all had fun playing together. I had a basketball shooting competition down in the basement with Jayni while Emma and Nora cheered us on. Jayni ended up beating me by scoring five baskets before me... I'm out of practice apparently! We ended the night watching The Host... although it was a little too slow for my taste. The book is way better!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
On Saturday, Leisha asked me to watch her girls while her and Richard went to Stuart and Angelica's sealing at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. I seriously would watch them for every day for the rest of my life if I could! I can never get enough of their cuteness. We walked around the temple smelling all the tulips and other flowers while trying to not get dirty, since Emma and Nora were wearing cute dresses for pictures later on! The grass was wet so every time one of them stepped on it I hoped their gold sparkly shoes wouldn't get soaked. The time flew by way too fast, and soon I said goodbye to them and headed back to my apartment to relax for the rest of the day. </div>

On Sunday, I drove to Provo to have dinner with my cousin Cherise and her family. I haven't seen them in a year! It's crazy how much her kids have grown. Oliver is now 17-months old and walking and starting to talk! And the twins Addie and Lydia are so bubbly and full of energy. Mack has some pretty sweet dance moves! His moves make me jealous. It was fun spending some time with them! </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
I saw this video on one of my friend's Facebook walls and thought it was pure genius. We all think we have flaws and aren't afraid to talk about them, mainly because we don't think we have "the perfect body." It doesn't matter what we think of ourselves as much as what others think about us. If others see us as beautiful inside and out, then that's all that really matters. That's how our Savior sees us, too!</div>

I have been the Marketing Assistant at Digital Trike for 2 weeks now, and I absolutely love it! I'm learning some really neat things about the app and website development world. I love having the responsibilities I have been given.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So far, I am in charge of Digital Trike's social media pages, so I get to write and post content and on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Digital Trike's blog. The main thing I have been working on is writing all the content for Digital Trike's new website, which hopefully will be up and running soon! I'm helping out with the website layout as well. Writing the content for the website has allowed me to learn a lot about the company, so it was the perfect assignment for me. I also have been researching ways we can use marketing to bring future clients to our company. I really hope I can find some new and creative ways to get Digital Trike more well-known!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am so happy I get to go to my apartment for lunch most days, since my work is only 2 miles away! I've never had a problem with eating out too much, since at Deseret News the closest place was Subway but I would usually pack my lunch and eat it there. Here at Digital Trike, once a week, we usually all order food from a food place and someone will go and pick it up to bring back to us. I've tried a couple new food places from doing that. One of them in Tasty Thai. I like thai food, but I'm not a big fan of curry which is in a lot of thai food! But I ordered this steak-like meat with sticky rice last week, and it was so amazingly delicious! Note to self: I need to venture out to new places like that more often instead of sticking to the normal, boring places whenever I eat out!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm still so grateful for being able to find a job right in time, just a few days before my internship with Deseret News ended. I can't wait to increase my skills here and be given more tasks and assignments in the future!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And I apologize for my lack of pictures lately... I'll work on taking more pictures!</div>

Last week, my mom posted a pin on Pinterest of a recipe for Coconut Lime Cheesecake Bars. Right when I saw it, I knew I had to make them! Coconut and cheesecake are two of my favorite things, so combining them sounded so heavenly! I made them yesterday and they turned out pretty great! I'm posting the recipe on here to share and for future reference.</div>

<b>Instructions:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray bottom and sides of 9x13 pan with cooking spray.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In large bowl, combine crust ingredients until soft dough forms. Press evenly into bottom of pan. Bake 15-17 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Cool for 15 minutes. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
While crust is baking, in large bowl, beat cream cheese for 1 minute. Slowly add cream of coconut until well blended. Stir in lime juice and coconut extract. Add eggs, one at a time, until smooth. Spread over crust. Bake 40-45 minutes or until set and golden brown around edges. Cool 20 minutes at room temperature, then refrigerate for 1 hour. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In another bowl, blend together cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Add coconut extract and lime juice. Slowly add powdered sugar until well blended. Carefully spread frosting over cheesecake layer. Sprinkle with toasted coconut and lime peel. Refrigerate for 30 minutes before cutting into bars. Store in refrigerator. </div>

<br />
I have some new goals, and I know I will feel more motivated to accomplish my goals if I post them on my blog, knowing others will be aware of them! Here are a few goals I'm currently working towards:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. <b>Exercise on a regular basis. </b>I feel so out of shape. So out of shape, in fact, that it's as if I'm more tired than energized throughout the day! I know if I get back in shape I will have more energy and be awake all day. I've been going to my apartment's gym every night and walking/jogging on the treadmill for 30-45 minutes. It's really hard for me to do this because I get bored pretty easily. But I just have to stick with it and keep telling myself it's good to workout! Plus honestly, from 6 to 9 every weekday evening I have nothing better to do anyways. Gotta love the life of a grown-up!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. <b>Eat healthier. </b>Going along with working out on a regular basis, I need to start eating healthier. From working out and eating better during my last semester at BYU-Idaho, I lost 20 pounds! I know if I eat healthy during the week then splurge a little bit on the weekends, I will eventually be happier having a healthier body!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. <b>Go to the temple once a month. </b>I have no excuse for not going to the temple(s) lately... I live in Utah for heaven's sake! I'm surrounded by Utah's gorgeous temples. I'm going to start going once a month on Saturday mornings, and possibly rotate between different temples to be able to say I've been to them :)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
4. <b>Serve others. </b>My roommates are really good about serving others. I need to follow their example and participate in more service activities, starting with helping to clean the church building on Saturday... my singles ward has cleaning duty this month.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Those are just a few goals I can think of right now. There's a few more, but I need to start somewhere and work slowly toward accomplishing all the goals I have so I know I will be able to actually accomplish them. Here's to working hard towards achieving goals!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also have to say one more thing... General Conference last weekend was so wonderful! I love the opportunity to listen to God's Prophets and Apostles... I can't help but fill the spirit the entire time those men are speaking. Their words make me want to be a better person, which is probably why I feel the need to set some new goals and reach them FOR SURE this time around!</div>

Have I ever mentioned that someday, when I'm a stay-at-home mom with crazy kiddos who take over my life, I would love to design baby, wedding and other types of announcements in my spare time? Well, I would! I see cute designs all the time on Pinterest and I think to myself, "Wow, that is adorable! I want to design announcements for other's special occasions someday!"</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A few months back, I opened up my first little Etsy shop, "Printable Pleasures," where I first made an I-Spy printable for my sister's wedding then placed it in my shop. I then proceeded to make fun Christmas and Valentine's Day printables. I've sold a few of my items, but my goal right now is to make myself more well-known on Etsy so I can get to the point someday where I can design and sell announcements.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Last October's General Conference, I noticed how popular the printables of the quotes were and they were being spread like a wildfire! I made a commitment to myself for next General Conference to be the one whose quote designs are being repinned and shared by everyone. How cool would that be?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I decided to create a printable series called "Memorable Quotes from the April 2013 General Conference." I listened to each session of conference and wrote down quotes that I felt were either meaningful or memorable. My mom also helped me out and sent quotes via text! I chose four favorite quotes from every session to make into printables. As soon as my designs were done, I posted them on Etsy. They currently are $2 each, and I have advertised them through Pinterest and my Facebook page if you want to check them out there as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I've posted the final designs on here for you to take a look at if you would like to purchase one or more for yourself! If you like more than one, you can purchase four for a discount of $6.50.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I had so much fun creating these designs and I hope to continue doing quotes from each General Conference for years to come (I really hope so... it was more stressful than I thought to get exact quotes and design them quickly). Also, if you had a favorite quote from conference that you would like me to make a printable with, let me know and I will design it for you! Enjoy!</div>

<br />
My family picked me up at the airport around 3, then we headed to our hotel before going over to see my brother and his family. It was neat being on the air force base. They live in the perfect housing community to raise kids in! They have a fenced in backyard with a playground right on the other side of the gate. That night we went out to dinner at The Cheesecake Factory and went downtown to the strip, met up with my sister-in-law Cassandra's family, then Cassandra's siblings and other older kids went on the New York NewYork's roller coaster.<br />
<br />
On Saturday, we spent the first part of out day at the Las Vegas Temple. That temple was gorgeous! There was someone getting married that day as well. We then went walking down part the Strip in Las Vegas. We parked in the Paris hotel, watched the Bellagio water show and also went to the Coca Cola and M&M stores. We also went to the famous "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign and took pictures. Once we got back to our hotel, Aaron and his family came over and we went swimming in the pool. I had fun swimming with my cute nephews! We also ate at In-N-Out!<br />
<br />
Sunday was Easter and my new nephew's baby blessing. We spent the whole day at Aaron's house making Easter dinner then eating it. I tried to soak up as much sun as possible before I flew back to Salt Lake the next day. I think my nephew's Asher and Abbott made me laugh more times than I could count! Those boys were so fun and entertaining all weekend. They definitely were worn out by Sunday evening after not taking naps the past couple of days. Abbott started falling asleep in his high chair while we were feeding him! It was the funniest thing.<br />
<br />
I arrived back in Salt Lake around 1 this afternoon. And I start my new job tomorrow! I'm excited for this new adventure and hope I enjoy it! I already miss Deseret News lots and need to visit soon!<br />

Talk about stressful! Well, a couple hours later I received a call from a company I had interviewed with. They were looking for a marketing assistant. I got the job! I was super excited because this job is perfect for me. The company is called Digital Trike. They are a software development agency so they make websites, apps, and other related things for companies. I will get to write for their blog, do some web and graphic design and be in charge of their social media sites. The best part is it is only 2 miles away from my apartment! It will be nice to get to work in less than 5 minutes!<br />
<br />
The job starts out part-time with the potential to go full-time if I have enough to do. And eventually, I could work from anywhere and still work for them as long as I have internet access! I hope that works out eventually. I start next Tuesday when I get back from Las Vegas.<br />
<br />
I had another opportunity come up on Monday. About a month ago, I saw The Dating Divas (some really awesome bloggers... if you haven't heard of them, you're missing out!) were looking for a couple assistants since they are pretty busy and could use some additional help. I applied, thinking "I'm sure tons of women are going to be applying to be their assistant... but I have nothing else working out for me so I might as well see what comes of it!" I answered some questions about myself so they could get a sense of my personality.<br />
<br />
On Monday, I received an email from them which said I was one of the final 20 they have chosen to move on to Round Three. There were over 400, yes, 4-0-0 women that had applied! I was so shocked but so grateful that they saw something in me and gave me a chance to continue to show my skills! Round Three consisted of tasks I would be doing as an assistant... answering emails, coming up with ideas for posts and printables, taking pictures and a lot of other little fun things! Seriously, this would be more like a fun hobby than a job. I love blogging and look up to successful bloggers like The Dating Divas. It would be such an amazing opportunity to work for them, as it could open the door for me to be my own successful blogger someday! I should be hearing back from them in a couple weeks. I still have to compete against 19 others, but just knowing I was one of the 400 they liked the most means so much! It makes me feel happy and positive about myself, especially when I have been turned down a few times while job hunting for the last few months. As long as I keep my head up and stay positive, everything will work out in the end!<br />
<br />
So... my life turned from stress and frustration to happiness and excitement all in one weekend! I'm so glad I found a job, even though it's part-time. I'm glad I have a chance to be an assistant for The Dating Divas, which is like my dream job. Slowly but surely, I know I am becoming the person I was meant to become during my time here on Earth, and I couldn't be happier! I am so thankful to my family and close friends who have been praying for me during this stressful time in my life. Without their prayers, I probably would still be job hunting!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8149933370207164361.post-51687911681387162312013-03-22T14:36:00.002-06:002013-03-22T14:36:41.915-06:00Realization Has HitI apologize in advance that this is yet ANOTHER Deseret News-related post (because the last 3 dealt with Deseret News in one way or another). But today I was looking at my calendar, and it hit me.... I only have one more week left of being an intern at Deseret News. One. More. Week. That's 7 days. Well technically 5 work days... but you get the point! <br />
<br />
I still haven't found anything set in stone to go after my internship ends. There's a couple possibilities, but I'm still waiting to hear back. Waiting around to see if you got a job is the worst thing ever! It's no fun waiting for a couple weeks then finding out you didn't even get the job! But I guess that is life. Hopefully I find another job soon :)<br />
<br />
Last week it was so warm and sunny here. It was 60 degrees and felt like summer! But on the 20th, the first day of spring, it was snowing outside! And I was so hopeful we wouldn't see snow until next winter (But I live in Utah... so of course my weather wishes will most likely never come true). It's snowing hard again today and is suppose to the rest of the weekend. How come the bad weather is always on the weekends when I actually can go out and have fun?<br />
<br />
This weekend, I'm looking forward to seeing my Aunt Mimi, my cousin Brianne an her awesome family. Then next weekend I'm flying to Las Vegas and meeting up with my family to meet my newest nephew! It should be lots of fun. I'm definitely eager to get out of Utah, even if it's only for a couple days.<br />
<br />
Anyways, that is all I have to report! I live such an exciting life (not)! I've been bad at taking pictures lately, so hopefully I post some soon. Oh and if you have cute kids, you should go see "The Croods." It comes to theaters this weekend! I went to a screening last weekend and thought it was pretty good! My roommate and I still quote some of the lines. Although it's not as good as Wreck-it Ralph in my opinion, it's definitely a perfect movie for families. I wrote an article comparing animation from the first "Toy Story" to "The Croods." You can check it out <a href="http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865576400/From-Toy-Story-to-The-Croods-An-evolution-of-animation.html"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #3d85c6;">here</span></a>!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
